Vermiculations in painted caves: New inputs from laboratory experiments and field observations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Vermiculations are aggregates of small particles commonly found on cave walls. They a major concern for the conservation painted caves, as they can potentially alter valuable prehistoric paintings. A previous rheological study fine sediment deposits walls revealed that this material undergo solid-to-liquid transition triggered by variations in chemical composition water film wall. Such could occur at origin vermiculations allowing to flow under low mechanical stress. In work, we provide quantitative information conditions leading and show importance complete understanding phenomenon will, however, require more field information. This includes monitoring evolution vermiculations, which have developed dedicated observation protocol. Based combination photogrammetry geographic system were able precisely map Hall Bulls Lascaux from past future photographs. To better understand vermiculation process, pictures need be taken regularly, thin covering needs analyzed with similar time step. The correlation between humidification phases walls, temperature changes should shed new light triggering vermiculations.

متن کاملBleaching in Amphistegina gibbosa d’Orbigny (Class Foraminifera): observations from laboratory experiments using visible and ultraviolet light
Bleaching (visible loss of symbiont color) in populations of the diatom-bearing foraminifer Amphistegina has been recorded from reefs worldwide since 1991. Field studies and previous laboratory experiments have strongly implicated solar radiation as a factor in bleaching stress. The influence of spectral quality and quantity of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and ultraviolet radiation...

متن کاملBreaking tidal bore: comparison between field data and laboratory experiments
A tidal bore is a surge of waters propagating upstream as the tidal flow turns to rising and the flood tide rushes into a funnel shaped river mouth with shallow waters. The present study focused on the unsteady turbulence induced by a breaking tidal bore through some physical modelling. The laboratory data were compared systematically with some field measurements conducted in the breaking bore ...
متن کاملMaximum steepness of oceanic waves: Field and laboratory experiments
[1] The breaking of waves is an important mechanism for a number of physical, chemical and biological processes in the ocean. Intuitively, waves break when they become too steep. Unfortunately, a general consensus on the ultimate shape of waves has not been achieved yet due to the complexity of the breaking mechanism which still remains the least understood of all processes affecting waves. To ...
